Let your foraged findings inspire and guide you in the art of linocut to create a unique set of prints!
Students begin by walking the grounds of PHOTO FARM with local forager, Cary J. Brief, to learn about and gather the surrounding woodland flora and fauna. Foraging gave Cary a connection through history that he finds powerful and enduring. He began early in life, learning about the edible flowers, berries, barks, nuts and what the local indigenous peoples survived upon in New Jersey. His wife later introduced him to Black Forest Germany where he foraged wild mushrooms. He has been a member of the NJ Mycological Society, the Urban Foragers in Los Angeles and varied local groups and forums who share knowledge about all types of plant, fungi and animal life. “The one most important rule I follow is never eat or use a plant or fungi you are not 110% certain what it is. No morsel is worth getting ill over! And equally as important when collecting, don’t take too much, leave for others, especially our furry and feathered friends.”
Students then transition to relief printing with artist, Dominick Rapone, and learn how to carve, ink and print their linoleum blocks onto paper. This workshop blends your curiosity and appreciation of the natural world with hands-on methods for expressing that wonder. No prior experience required.
