Make magic with confidence!
You know your way around a camera and feel confident taking portraits in natural light, but have been nervous to try studio lighting. Flashes or strobes can be intimidating. Continuous lighting, on the other hand, allows you to see how the light is behaving on your portrait subject before taking a single photograph. It’s a forgiving process that will elevate your photos without the technical stress.
We will cover continuous lighting (rather than strobes/flashes) using one light head — a setup you can easily duplicate at home. You will gain a greater understanding of light modifiers and when and how to employ dramatic/hard versus soft/diffused light. We’ll explore camera settings for portraiture with the goal of honing your own style. Most importantly, we’ll take an intuitive approach.
A working knowledge of manual camera settings is encouraged but not required. Bring your own camera and tripod. If you do not have a tripod, we have some on hand.
